HAPPY THANKSGIVING !
I hope everyone is enjoying lots of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peas, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie! Alas, here in France, these are not on the menu today. As you certainly are aware, Thanksgiving does not exist in France. It's just a normal Thursday.
Nevertheless, I decided to celebrate in my own way. No, I'm not cooking a turkey. (If you're wondering, tonight I'm making eggplant marinated in balsamic vinaigrette served over couscous with feta cheese.) No, I decided to do what I would be doing if I were in the States today ... besides eat. I ran my own Thanksgiving Day 10K! I was thinking of all the races being held all over the country today, and it made me feel a little left out. So I headed out for a run with my "virtual running partner" on my Garmin GPS (ooh ... this is starting to sound a little sad, isn't it ...). I wanted to finish in 54 minutes, but I came in a little slow ... 54:51. I probably would have gone faster if I'd had the music and crowd support that will be present along the hundreds of miles of courses around the country today. But even though I was a little slow, I felt great and enjoyed the time out there on my own.
So if you're running today, or supporting a runner, have a great time out there! Enjoy the excitement and energy of the runners and the crowd!
And to everyone ... Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
